For my first day of research and development for my new show at Jackson’s Lane Theatre, I was joined by comedian and director, André Vincent. I felt like before I even started with any of the juggling side of things, I would take advantage of André’s writing skills and spend the day brain storming ideas.
Perhaps somewhat controversially, firstly we discussed the title of the show. I wanted a title that wouldn’t be so specific so that it wouldn’t restrict the direction of the show, but I also wanted it to be catchy and interesting. I bounced a few titles around such as “Jon Bonne Udry”, “Juggling! No not like that!” and “Operation Udry” (bad choice as I think perhaps it might draw the wrong crowd). Finally we have settled for my personal favourite “Jon Udry Punches Gravity in the Face”. This is the working title at the moment and this is very likely to change if something better comes along, but at the moment it’s staying and I like it.
André and myself then discussed various themes and journeys that the show could go in. Still undecided with this, but I would love there to be a sense of overcoming obstacles.
Finally, I talked André through the different unconventional juggling props that I plan to have in the show including the jumping poppers, quadcopter, boomwhackers, and helium balloons.
The show very slowly started to form its embryonic state today which feels very exciting indeed.
More to come….
