Well, it has been a very busy week. A lot to report back to blog-town. I am currently sat in an airport at 5:30am, fuelling myself with coffee and croissants. I’m feeling a little bleary eyed so my apologies for my lack of lucidity.
Last week, I was performing in Feltham for Feltham Fun Day. The show was a sell out.
This is the second time I have done this gig now, and it has been extremely fun every time. How much fun can you get from hanging out in a community centre hall for an hour? It turns out, quite a lot. Great crowd and lots of silly nonsense.
After Feltham, I head to Bath to compère the Bath UpChuck, Bath’s leading (and only) juggling convention. This was dynamite. Great to be introducing such a stellar line up.
I always tend to have a lot of fun hosting, but this gig really was a peach. It was also the first time I performed the saturn trick (balls going through the rings) with 6 objects. I have been speaking to juggling historian about this trick, and he says that he isn’t aware of anyone else ever performing it. I could be the first! But it’s more likely that I’m not. Still, a lovely trick, and an even lovelier audience to perform it to.
The following day, I met up with my ABC Tour Team to record the first ever ABC Tour Podcast.
We had a theme tune written for us by the ever talented Elliot Mason (https://mrelliotmason.com). The podcast was a very strange experience for me. We chatted in a room at a mic for an hour and a half about the tour. I don’t know if this will be 1 or 2 edited podcasts, I don’t know if this will in anyway help the ABC Tour, and I don’t know if it will be interesting! Only time will tell. But don’t worry, I’ll keep you in the loop.
In other news, We have a new ABC Tour date. M is for Monkey Sanctuary! This will be the first show on the tour that is going to be my attempt at performing for a different species. It should be fun!
Yesterday I performed show “I” on the ABC Tour. For this we decided to do a show on the internet. This came with so many challenges. You have no audience in the room. It’s hard to know if you are doing well or not. It is a logistical nightmare. Luckily I had my hand ABC Tour Team there to help me out. This is definitely not one of the shows that I could’ve done by myself. Anton was relaying useful and interesting comments to my that people were sending. Courtney was making signs for people to read, supplying snacks, and monitoring the chatroulette. Dan was filming the entire thing. Angie also helped out with the signs. We performed the whole show as an interactive game show where people could send in suggestions, vote on what tricks I will perform and even do a phone in challenge to the phone box in the street! Overall I consider this show a massive success. It is not every day that people from all over the world, can watch the same show, live and inter-actable, from the comforts of their own homes. This would not have been possible without the help from Courtney, Anton, Angie and Dan. Thank-you big time guys! The entire show can be found on my facebook page or on the Jon Udry ABC Tour facebook group.
